Overview
The blown glass vessels with facet-cut decoration – beakers, plates, jugs, bowls – became popular in the second half of the 1st century A.D.; they are mostly made of the colorless glass. This extremely beautiful aquamarine-colored dish is very rare. The shallow dish has an oval shape. The bottom, sides and the overhanging rim are decorated with round, wheel-cut concave facets. With the translucency of glass and different thickness in the areas, the facets create an intensive light-and-shadow effect.
Condition
Some deposits; rim damaged.
Provenance
Ex- Benzian collection; Sotheby’s, London, 7 July 1994, lot 137.
