Cross Collection: Ancient Art Through the Modern Eye

Curator, Dr. Alexander V. Kruglov will discuss the trend of cross collecting, as many modern and contemporary art lovers begin to add ancient art to their collections. Cycladic art in particular, has become extremely popular and is known to have been an inspiration to great modern sculptors such as Picasso a, Giacometti, Modigliani, and Henry Moore.

Note: Wheelchairs are available at the Guest Services Desk at the front of the Pier in Family Pavilion, at the East End Security Post, and SOFA coat checks. They are available at no charge, on a first-come, first-served basis. ID is required. All levels of the Navy Pier complex are accessible by elevators. transit and parking
Shuttle Service: Courtesy shuttles will run between SOFA Chicago’s Entrance 2 at Navy Pier, The MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) and the River North Gallery District. Shuttles operate continuously from noon to 8pm Friday and Saturday, Sunday 11am to 2pm.
Public Transportation: Bus and train travel information is available at Chicago Transit Authority 1.888.YOURCTA.
Taxi: Navy Pier has three taxi drop-off and pick-up points. If you like a long walk, ask your driver to be dropped at the front of the Pier. Otherwise, ask your driver to drop you at Entrance 1 or 2 on the north side of the Pier – those drop-off points are closest to SOFA.
Trolley: A free trolley runs between Navy Pier and State Street, along Grand Avenue and Illinois Street during SOFA CHICAGO general admission. Trolley service begins at 1 pm runs until 7 pm on Friday and Saturday; and 2 – 6 pm on Sunday. Trolleys typically run every 20 minutes, pick-up points are indicated by ‘Navy Pier Trolley Stop’ signs along the route.
